Bohrapir Hardware Market, Karachi: A Buyer's Checklist

Bohrapir hardware market: the quick buying checklist

Planning a visit to the Bohrapir hardware market in Karachi? Bring clear photos of the fitting, its measurements, the quantity you need and any model reference. Confirm the exact item and collection shop before travelling. A fitting that looks similar can still have different screw centres, a different operating function or an unsuitable size.

Looking for MJ Trader's Bohra Pir shop? Our address is Bhawani Street, Bohra Pir, Karachi. Use our Contact page for the shop map and current branch details. We also have a Saddar shop, so agree which branch you intend to visit. This address identifies our shop; it is not an address for every business in the market.

Whether you need one replacement lock or several fittings for a job, the checklist below helps you arrive with the information needed to discuss a suitable match.

  • Identify: record the part, model and job it needs to do.
  • Photograph: show the complete fitting, fixing points and markings.
  • Measure: label each dimension and include its unit.
  • Count: specify pieces, pairs, complete sets or packets.
  • Confirm: agree the proposed item, quotation and collection branch.

The cover is an editorial illustration of shopping-preparation tools, not a photograph of Bohrapir or MJ Trader's stock.

What hardware can you enquire about?

MJ Trader's catalogue includes locks, door fittings, furniture accessories, hand tools, fasteners, bearings and general hardware. Start with the category closest to your job, then confirm the exact item and quantity. A catalogue listing helps identify a requirement; it does not promise that every variant is available at both shops.

For example, a door repair may involve a lock, handle, hinge or fixing rather than one interchangeable “door fitting”. A cabinet job may need matching handles, hinges or drawer hardware. Bring the old-part reference or the installer's specification so you can discuss the component that actually needs replacing.

Start with the job, then identify the fitting

Describe what the hardware needs to do. “A lock for an existing timber bedroom door” gives a supplier more useful context than “a good lock”. “A replacement handle using the existing two holes” explains a constraint that a photo alone may miss.

For a replacement, note what is wrong with the old fitting: a broken handle, a damaged latch, loose fixing holes or a part that no longer lines up. These observations help distinguish a parts enquiry from an installation problem. A new fitting may still need work by your carpenter or installer if the door, frame or mounting surface is damaged.

For a new installation, ask the installer for the required hardware type and dimensions before buying. Do not rely on a general product name to settle compatibility.

You can browse the hardware catalogue to find a reference. Save the product link as well as the photograph, so the enquiry identifies a particular listing.

Bring useful photos, not just a close-up

Before leaving for the shop, prepare:

  • A clear view of the complete fitting in its installed position.
  • A view from the other side where the fitting operates through a door or panel.
  • A close-up of the maker, model or size marking, if readable.
  • A view of the fixing points, door edge or mounting plate.
  • A ruler beside the dimension you want to show, with its scale readable.

Save the full-size visit checklist or use the plain-text buying worksheet to prepare your enquiry. The visual repeats the practical checks in this guide; you do not need to read text inside an image to follow them.

Keep unrelated people, documents and personal information out of the pictures. You do not need to photograph a customer's paperwork to identify a hinge or lock.

If an old part has already been safely removed, bringing it may help with comparison. Do not dismantle the only working entrance lock just to obtain a sample. Ask your installer to record any dimensions that cannot be seen without removal.

Record the measurements that matter for your item

Use millimetres where possible and write down what each measurement describes. “Length: 100 mm” is incomplete if nobody knows whether that means the overall fitting, the hole spacing or a moving part.

Door locks

Identify whether you have a bored knob or lever lockset, a lock case fitted into a pocket in the door edge, or a surface-mounted rim lock. For a bored lockset, record the door thickness, backset and existing hole preparation. Backset is the distance from the door edge to the centre of the relevant bore or operating position; confirm the measurement required for the exact lock type.

Also explain the function you need, such as a keyed entrance or an internal privacy function. Two similar knobs need not operate in the same way. For background, use our guide to handle, mortise and rim locks, then browse Locks & Security.

Handles and furniture fittings

Measure between the centres of the existing fixing holes, and record the overall length separately. Note the panel thickness and available clearance around the handle. A replacement can be long enough to cover the old marks but still have the wrong fixing centres.

For hinges, show the existing mounting arrangement and any identifying dimensions or markings. A concealed cabinet hinge needs more information than a general description such as “soft-close”. Use the Furniture Hardware category and our handle-types guide to identify the fitting before asking for a match.

Read the measurement correctly: fixing centres run from the middle of one fixing hole to the middle of the other. Overall length runs between the outer ends of the handle. The full-size measurement diagram is schematic and gives no universal replacement size.

Padlocks and continuous hinges

For a padlock, record the opening it must pass through and the available space around the hasp or chain. Body size alone does not tell you whether the shackle fits. Our padlock size and shackle-fit guide explains the separate checks.

For a continuous piano hinge, write down the length, what the stated width refers to, and the fixing arrangement. If the old and proposed hinges are described differently, ask for the dimensions rather than assuming the same nominal size means the same fitting. See the piano hinge measurement guide and Door Hardware category.

Make the quantity and packing clear

A piece, pair, set and packet can describe different amounts. Before comparing a quote, confirm what one quoted unit contains.

  • If you need complete left-and-right drawer channels, say how many pairs you need.
  • For a lockset, ask which latch, strike, keys and fixing accessories are included.
  • For a handle, confirm whether the price is for one handle or a complete arrangement for both sides.
  • For screws or other fixings, confirm the size, quantity per packet and number of packets.
  • For several matching fittings, agree the model, size and finish across the whole quantity.

An illustrative requirement could read: “Six replacement cabinet handles for existing holes, 128 mm centre-to-centre. Photos attached. Please confirm the fixing centres, overall dimensions, finish and suitable screws for the panel thickness.” These numbers are an example of a clear description, not a statement about a particular catalogue product or its availability.

A short enquiry you can adapt before your visit

Copy these prompts into your message and replace the blanks with your own details:

  • Item and job: I need ___ for ___.
  • Existing fitting: model/reference ___; photos available.
  • Measurements: ___ mm overall; ___ mm fixing centres; panel/door thickness ___ mm, where relevant.
  • Quantity: ___ pieces / pairs / complete sets / packets.
  • Please confirm: the exact model, fitting compatibility, included accessories, current price and available quantity.
  • Collection: I would like to collect from ___ on ___; please confirm the branch and timing before I travel.

Only include measurements that apply to your item; the example fields are not a specification for every product. If you are unsure, say which dimension needs checking rather than guessing. For delivery instead, give your city and ask for charges and timing.

Compare equivalent hardware before comparing prices

When two offers differ, first check whether they describe the same item. Ask about the exact model, size, material specification where documented, finish, included fittings and quantity unit. Confirm whether the proposed alternative will fit the existing preparation.

A similar photograph or a description such as “heavy duty” does not establish that two products have the same performance. Ask for model-specific information when a particular duty, exposure or specification matters. If your installer has specified a product or fitting arrangement, get agreement before substituting it.

Then confirm the complete quoted amount, what is included, and any collection or delivery arrangements. Ask about the seller's exchange or return terms before proceeding, particularly where a fitting may be unsuitable after opening or installation. Do not assume every shop follows the same policy.

For a company purchasing list or several product types, use our hardware RFQ and BOQ checklist. It covers preparing a formal requirement; this visit checklist focuses on identifying and comparing the fittings you intend to discuss at the counter.

Confirm the branch before travelling or collecting

Send your photos, measurements, product references and quantities in advance where possible. Before setting off, agree:

  • The exact product or proposed alternative.
  • Current availability of the required quantity.
  • The quoted details and any outstanding fitting questions.
  • Which shop is handling the enquiry or collection.
  • The collection timing and whether any reservation has actually been agreed.

MJ Trader has Bohra Pir and Saddar locations. Check the Contact page for branch addresses and maps, and confirm arrangements directly before travelling. An enquiry or catalogue listing is not automatically a stock reservation.

A location search for “Bohrapir” or “Bohra Pir” may help you find the area, but use the specific shop details for your visit. This guide does not set opening hours for the whole market or promise parking or travel times.

Check the agreed item at collection

Compare the supplied model, size, finish, quantity and packing with what was agreed. Check that the accessories included in the quotation are present. If something differs, clarify it before installation rather than discovering the mismatch after new holes have been drilled.

Keep the product reference and the transaction record for follow-up. For a larger job, have the installer confirm the proposed fitting and any required sample before committing the full quantity.

Can you enquire without visiting Karachi?

Yes. MJ Trader supplies companies and customers across Pakistan from its Karachi shops. You can Request Quote with a product reference or a written description, measurements, quantity and delivery city. For photos, drawings or spreadsheets, use the contact channels shown on the website; the quotation form itself accepts a written requirement rather than file uploads.

Availability, delivery charges, timing and any shop collection need confirmation for your requirement. See our delivery and collection guidance before making arrangements.

Quick questions before a hardware-shopping visit

Is a photograph enough to match a replacement?

A photograph helps identify the type and appearance, but it may not show the dimensions or hidden fixing details. Add measurements and model markings, and ask your installer to check details that are not safely visible.

Are Bohrapir hardware prices the same at every shop?

Compare the exact quoted item, quantity and inclusions. This guide does not provide a market price list or claim that any shop is always cheapest. Ask for the current quotation for your requirement.

What time does the Bohrapir hardware market open?

Confirm opening arrangements with the specific shop you intend to visit. MJ Trader's current branch information is on the Contact page; one shop's listed hours should not be treated as the opening hours of the whole market. Confirm collection timing directly before setting off.

Which MJ Trader branch should I visit?

Agree the branch handling your enquiry before travelling. The Bohra Pir shop is on Bhawani Street; the Contact page provides its map and the separate Saddar location details.

Technical references

Schlage's door-preparation guidance, Hettich's handle dimensions and ABUS padlock specifications illustrate why fitting measurements must be identified separately. Their specifications apply to those manufacturers' exact products; they do not establish availability or performance for other hardware in our catalogue.
